Summer Reading
Worcester
Preparatory Lower School students write wonderful essays,
and they've received many awards for their work. Most years
students are winners in many of the local competitions sponsored
by community groups. Some of these students have gone on
to become state and national winners in writing.
Worcester
students have received awards for their high scores in the
Johns Hopkins Talent Search testing, and a large number
each year qualify for the Grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 Talent Searches
based upon standardized test scores. To qualify, students
have to score in the 95th to 99th percentiles on nationally
standarized testing.
Honors
in the art, music, and sports realms are often presented
to Worcester Preparatory School students. They've received
awards for poster and crafts competitions and have been
given leading roles in dramatic and musical productions
in our community and beyond. Their musical presentations
in the Christmas Candlelight Service and their artistic
and musical presentations in the Spring Music and Art Festival
are greatly appreciated by the community. Worcester Preparatory
School students have earned many individual achievements
in tennis, gymnastics, wrestling, karate, and in team sports
such as lacrosse and soccer.
Technology
honors have often come to Worcester Preparatory School Lower
School students. Since the early 1980s, our students have
presented at local, state, and national conventions and
meetings; have won national awards from the Computer Learning
Foundation, Apple Computer, and national multimedia competitions;
and have been filmed in our computer labs by both Apple
Computer and Microsoft Corporation. Worcester Preparatory
School Lower School students were selected to help with
the presentation of a geography software program at the
National Press Club, have presented for the National School
Boards Association, and were interviewed at the Library
of Congress. They do excellent work in desktop publishing,
graphic art and digital video and have received awards for
this work.
