Music/Drama Workshop I - "On The Radio" -CANCELLED
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Time: Entering Grades 4 through 8 in September 2010

Welcome to KYDZ, the radio station that plays the hits while you sing along to the oldies, the goodies and all the songs kids  have loved throughout the years. From the Depression and World War II, the Beatles and disco, the radio is where America hears the songs that become the soundtracks of their lives. Join us as we present this musical with six “top hits” and twenty-five speaking parts that showcase our musical history.  Final Performance:  Friday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m.  Campers should bring a lunch; 2 snacks (for mid-morning and mid-afternoon); pencil; highlighter; and wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Creative Adventures - An Intro to Drama
Time: 9 A.M.-3 P.M.
Time: Entering Grades 1 through 3 in September 2010

Campers will be introduced to the theater using creative dramatics, dance and movement, and games and activities. The camp will include theater exercises, improvisational games and visits from actual actors. At the week’s end the camp will perform live before an audience of family and friends. Campers should bring a lunch.

Lights, Camera, Action!!
Time: 9 A.M.-3 P.M.
Time: Entering Grades 4 through 7 in September 2010

Learn how to write, direct, star in and produce your own short film, rock video or newscast. Campers will use camcorders, sets and Apple’s iMovie software to become familiar with basic techniques of movie making. The week will end with an original Film Festival.  Campers should bring a lunch.

Fitastic Kids
Time: 9 A.M.-12:00 Noon (1/2 Day Camp)

f you like to play games and have fun, then this camp is for you! The camp is designed to offer enjoyable, success-oriented physical education experiences that reach everyone. Special attention is given to social interaction and the improvement of self-concept, cooperation and sportsmanship. There will be a strong emphasis on fitness and skill development. The program contains: tagging and dodging games, beach volleyball, soccer pinball and four square group games, parachute and earth ball, and Olympic events to be held on the final day of camp. Campers should bring a water bottle and wear loose, comfortable clothing and sneakers.

Fighting Mallard Boys' Lacrosse Camp
Time: 9 A.M.-12:00 Noon (1/2 Day Camp)

LACROSSE IS FUN! This action-packed camp is led by Worcester’s Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse coach Kevin Gates who has had the pleasure of coaching at almost every level of lacrosse. Assisting him will be many WPS alumni including Trip Dyer ‘03, Chris Mancini ‘03, Garvey Heiderman ‘05, Travis Gregory ‘07, to name a few. This camp will help players develop the fundamental skills necessary for the game. Drills are designed to improve such basics as stick handling, dodges, face-offs, passing, shooting, clearing, rides and goal play. There will be individual and team drills. Lacrosse is the same game at every level; therefore campers will start with the basics and build from there. Each camper needs a helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, arm pads, chest protector (goalies only), athletic supporter, lax stick and water bottle.

Cheerleading Camp
Time: 9 A.M.-12:00 Noon (1/2 Day Camp)

Join us for a fun, exciting week of cheerleading! The focus will be on all aspects of the sport including: team building, safety, jumps, cheers, chants, dances, stunts, pyramids, tumbling and game day routines. Campers will spend Tuesday at Twisters gym to practice skills on a spring floor. (They will need to dropped off and picked up at Twisters on Tuesday.) At the end of the week, campers will perform for fans and demonstrate all of their new skills through a game day routine. Campers will receive the same WPS Cheer shirt and shorts as the Varsity team cheerleaders to be worn at the performance on Friday.  Campers should bring a snack and water bottle, and wear sneakers and comfortable clothing.

Session 2: JULY 19-23, 2010

Music/Drama Workshop II - "The Hundred-Year Snooze"
Time: 9 A.M.-3 P.M.

The story of Sleeping Beauty is told in this easy to learn musical that is full of opportunities for all students to enjoy. A smart and funny script, nine original songs, solo opportunities, ensemble and speaking parts help to create a memorable experience for all. This is definitely no snoozer!  Final Performance:  Friday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m.  Campers should bring a lunch; 2 snacks (for mid-morning and mid-afternoon); pencil; highlighter; and wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Down By The Bay
Time: 9 A.M.-3 P.M.
Time: Entering Grades 1 through 3 in September 2010

Campers will explore and experience all the bay can offer. They will learn about the important role the bay plays in our ecosystem. A field trip to Assateague Island National Seashore will expose them to the wildlife in and around the bay and well as create awareness as to what they can do to preserve the bay. Guest speakers will inform campers about how to keep the bay waters clean and safe for us and the animals that live there. The week will end with a Seafood Feast directly from the bay.  Campers should bring a lunch.

Design Squad - Remix - CANCELLED
Time: 9 A.M.-3 P.M.
Time: Entering Grades 4 through 7 in September 2010

Using the popular PBS program, Design Squad, campers will experience hands-on engineering challenges. They will use their creativity and ingenuity to build structures to meet a series of design challenges. Using technology, campers will do a wide range of activities that have a scale and complexity that will excite and motivate them to do activities on their own.   Campers should bring a lunch.

Glass Works
Time: 9 A.M.-3 P.M.
Time: Entering Grades 3 through 7 in September 2010

Explore the world of clay, glass and fibers. Artists will have the opportunity to create both clay and fabric bowls. They willfuse glass to create decorative plates and jewelry. A field trip to a local glass studio will provide campers with the opportunity to experience blowing their own glass ornaments. Finally, campers will be introduced to the fiber arts of weaving, feltings and batik or silk painting. Campers should bring a lunch and snack.

All Star Basketball for Boys & Girls
Time: 9 A.M.-12:00 Noon (1/2 Day Camp)
Time: Entering Grades 6 through 9 in September 2010

From the basic fundamentals to the advanced skills, All Star Basketball camp will help prepare the players for the upcoming season. Campers will learn various offensive and defensive concepts along with the rules and skills of the game.  Campers should wear non-marking shoes and bring a water bottle.
