WPS 2022 Upper School Essay & Art Contest Winners

Berlin, MD – Worcester Preparatory School (WPS) is pleased to announce this year’s Upper School (Grades 9-12) Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Ocean City – Berlin Optimist Club essay and art contest winners.
 
James Haley (Class of ‘25) of Bethany Beach, DE placed 1st and Travis Netting (‘25) of Dagsboro, DE placed 2nd in this year’s local Gen. Levin Winder Chapter of the DAR American History Essay Contest. The DAR sponsors an American History Essay Contest yearly to encourage young people to think creatively about the nation's history and to learn it in a new light. A panel of judges composed of DAR members and non-members select chapter winners.
 
Angeline Todorov (‘25) of Berlin, MD placed 1st and Jayden Scopp (‘25) also of Berlin, MD placed 3rd in the Ocean City – Berlin Optimist International Essay Competition. The topic of this year’s essay was, “How Does an Optimistic Mindset Change My Tomorrow?”
 
Izzy Huber (‘24) of Berlin, MD placed 1st and Aria Islam (‘22) of Ocean City, MD placed 2nd in this year’s Worcester County High School Arts Contest sponsored by the Ocean City – Berlin Optimist Club. In February, the Worcester County Arts Council featured the contest in their gallery located in Berlin, MD. This exhibition featured 27 pieces of student artwork submitted by art teachers from Pocomoke High School, Snow Hill High School, Stephen Decatur High School, and Worcester Preparatory School. The artwork was judged by artist and art teacher Gloria Richards, who retired after 30 years teaching art in Chicago, Wicomico County, and Worcester County Schools.
