Elks Essay Contest WPS Middle School Winners

Berlin, MD – This year’s Worcester Preparatory School’s (WPS) Ocean City Elks Lodge 2645 essay contest winners were recognized on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 and presented their checks.
 
Congratulations to WPS 6th graders Ellie Phillips for earning 1st place, and Rani Yonker who earned 2nd place in the Grade 5 & 6 division. In the Grade 7 & 8 division, WPS 7th graders Caleb Walston won 1st place, Gavin Mann received 2nd place and Gabriella Damouni earned 3rd place. Ellie Phillips and Caleb Walston will advance to the district level.
 
Ocean City Elks Lodge Americanism Essay Contest Chairpersons, Allen and Gretchen Meyer, presented each student with their award on Tuesday during lunch, as they were cheered on by their peers. This year’s Elks National Great Americanism essay contest theme was “What Does it Mean to Love Your Country?”. Each student submitted an essay close to 300 words expressing their views on their pride of America.
 
“We received in excess of 80 essays to review,” Allen Meyer said. “It wasn’t easy to get it down to three finalists in each age group.”
