Big Math Wins at WPS

Berlin, MD – Recently, WPS students scored big points at a few different math competitions placing them at the top of the charts.

The Maryland MathCounts Competition took place on February 17, 2022 where 12 WPS students competed virtually. The Competition Series has 4 levels of competition – school, chapter, state and national. Each level of competition consists of 3 rounds—Sprint, Target and Team Round. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about 1.5 hours to complete. The top four scoring students in the Chapter Competition were 8th graders Ansh Batra, Anisha Batra and Sydney Todorov and 7^th grader Mia Jaoude. Those four students went on to compete in the State Competition on March 31, 2022.

The Eastern Shore High School Mathematics Competition was held at Salisbury University on April 27, 2022. The event provides a fun and challenging mathematics competition focused on both individual and cooperative achievement. WPS senior Ayush Batra and juniors Parker Tingle and Chris Todorov competed. WPS placed second overall and individually Ayush Batra achieved first place, and Chris Todorov placed second.

WPS students also competed in the Maryland Math League on the high school level. For this competition there is a series of six-to-30-minute tests administered throughout the school year. The top five scorers are submitted for the school's team score. The top six students from WPS are seniors Ayush Batra and Jarett Sofronski, junior Chris Todorov, freshmen Jackson Fernley and Allen Zhang and 8^th grader Ansh Batra. Once again, WPS won in its division in the State of Maryland. Over 25 schools, in five divisions participate.
