WPS First Grade Agricultural & Wildlife Field Trip
Berlin, MD – Last week, Worcester Preparatory School’s (WPS) first grade class learned about local agriculture and wildlife while on a field trip to Groundworks Farm and Trap Pond State Park.
Groundworks Farm in Pittsville, Maryland is a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, also known as farm sharing, providing a direct connection between the customer and farmer. First grader Eleanor Brown’s family owns and manages the operation. During their time on the farm, the first-grade picked and tasted snap peas and harvested carrots. After picking the carrots, students learned how they were washed and prepped to take home.
Following their visit to the farm, the first grade stopped at Trap Pond State Park in Laurel, Delaware where they visited the nature center and participated in “Tracks and Trace.” The program taught students how to identify clues certain animals leave behind to determine if those animals are present in that area.
Founded in 1970, WPS is a private, independent Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 School, located in Berlin, Maryland. Approximately 500 students attend from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia. For more information about WPS, please visit www.worcesterprep.org or call 410.641.3575.
