Dr. Betsy Hornung is a native of the Hunt Valley, Maryland area where she graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory School, an AIMS accredited institution. She then attended and graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.A. in English before permanently relocating to the Eastern Shore. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Salisbury University while working for the Salisbury University Foundation and her Doctor of Education with a concentration in Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University.

 

Betsy has been an integral part of the Worcester Preparatory School community since accepting the position of Assistant Director of Development in 2012. Over her tenure with the school, she has grown into the position of Director of Enrollment and Finance, meeting challenges and ensuring the stability of the school in every role she’s held. In her current position, she oversees admissions, enrollment, and the operating budget, while working closely with the Board of Trustees. As a vital member of the Administrative Leadership Team, she helps shepherd curricular, co-curricular, and strategic decision-making, and has a unique understanding of curricular sequence and vertical alignment across all three divisions through her work with admissions and enrollment.

 

She and her husband, Chris, are the current parents of members of the Classes of 2030 (son, Jack) and 2033 (daughter, Gracie), both of whom began our program in pre-kindergarten, and are also the aunt and uncle of a member of the Class of 2027 (niece, Emma).

 

Betsy’s understanding of our school’s values, vision, and mission makes her extremely well-positioned to lead our school into the future while preserving our exceptional academic standards, maintaining our solid financial footing, and supporting our entire school community.

 

Over more than a decade, Betsy has demonstrated a commitment to cooperative leadership, collaboration, and student success, and we are thrilled to welcome her as our first female Head of School. We are confident her leadership and dedication to Worcester Preparatory School will continue to inspire excellence across all areas of our school.
