WPS Students Earn Awards Across the Board at Weekend Horse Show

Berlin, MD – Over the weekend, September 16-17, the Combined Eastern Shore Horse Shows (CESHS) hosted its 2023 Medal Ride Off & Horse Show at the Wicomico Equestrian Center, and impressive equitation and performance awards were earned by Worcester Preparatory School (WPS) students riding for Windy Way Farm.

On Saturday, Maddie Bobenko, riding Not Negotiable (Hoppy), earned 1st place in the Hunt Seat Medal Under 14. This win follows Maddie and Hoppy’s 5th place finish and Best Flatwork award at the Maryland Horse Shows Association (MHSA) 2023 Medal Final, held at the McDonogh School on August 6. Hannah Coyle, riding Brookside Mandalay (Mandy), took 3rd place, followed by Brooke Arnold on Hey Jack, securing 6th place. Isla Pippin, riding My Flat in London, placed 2nd in a Low Pony over fences class and 4th in the Bill and Olive Schell equitation classes on Saturday, while Kingsley Giardina earned 3rd place in two Short Stirrup equitation classes riding Guinevere.

Sunday began with a phenomenal performance by Brooke Arnold and Jack, earning 3rd place in the 2023 CESHS Hunter Pony Derby, followed by Maddie Bobenko and Hoppy in 5th place.

The Bill and Olive Schell Equitation class held on Saturday and Sunday brought much success to Nora Rafinski, riding Blue Heron’s Stephon Foster, and Maddie Bobenko riding Hoppy. Nora and Foster earned 1st place followed by Maddie and Hoppy in 2nd. Harper Hunt also had an incredible weekend, earning Champion in Lead Line riding Foxmore Wish I May on Saturday and Sunday.

In the performance category, Hannah Coyle and Mandy earned Reserve Champion in the Small/Medium/Large Pony Hunter division on Saturday. On Sunday, Maddie Bobenko and Hoppy earned Champion, while Nora Rafiniski and Foster earned Reserve Champion in the Small/Medium/Large Pony Hunter division.

All riders are trained by Allee Brady and Brittany Purnell (WPS Class of 2005) at Windy Way Farm in Berlin, MD.
