Berlin, MD – On Tuesday, October 7, a group of Upper School students from Worcester Prep visited Duffie Boatworks in West Ocean City, Maryland, as part of the WORX (Work, Observe, Research, Experience) program.
The WORX program aims to introduce students to a wide range of opportunities within our community and beyond. By integrating academic preparation with real-world experiences, the program enhances learning and provides valuable career exposure. Key elements of the WORX program include a speaker series, site visits to local businesses, and opportunities to shadow professionals across various industries.
During their visit, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the boat-building industry, from carpentry and interior design to mechanical and electrical systems and everything in between.
Duffie Boatworks' modern, state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and machinery. Leading the way are two 25-ton cranes suspended overhead, an automated CNC machine, as well as multiple automated lamination systems, brand-new woodworking and crafting machinery, multi-level wood and fabrication shops, and much more. State-of-the-art computers provide their marine architect and design team with everything they need to ensure all the work and designs are created in-house.
A special thanks goes to the Duffie family and team for graciously hosting the WPS students.
