Earth Day Celebrated Across All Grades at WPS

Berlin, MD – On Monday, Worcester Preparatory School (WPS) celebrated Earth Day by having Lower, Middle and Upper School students come together to celebrate science and our planet.
 
LS Spanish Teacher/Development Assistant, Mrs. Amanda Netting organized the afternoon, grouping Upper School students (grades 9-12) with kindergarten through 8th grade, conducting experiments and projects aligned to the student’s science curriculum, each emphasizing the message of Earth Day.
 
A wide variety of experiments were conducted, such as Painting with Chlorophyll, Seed Paper Shapes, Air Propelled Straw Rockets, Citrus vs. Potato Battery, Homemade Seismographs, How Tectonic Plates Move and many more. 
 
Throughout the day student art projects made of recycled objects were on display in the Dining Hall. Past Head of School, Dr. Barry Tull, and his wife, Diane, visited campus to judge the art projects. The winners are listed below:

Outside of the Innovation Lab, Dr. Nick Busko and senior physics students spent the week preparing wind chimes that sounded off to “Hedwig’s Theme” from the Harry Potter movies soundtrack, which was a hit across all grades in school.
